My Christmas Gifts 2015

DSC03794

It’s so hard adjusting back to working after a holiday. My sleeping schedule is all over the place now and I can hardly keep my eyes open when I’m supposed to be awake. Can we just go back on vacation? I mean I only got friday off but that was enough to take me off schedule. And it doesn’t help that almost everyone at work is still on vacation! Silently jealous! But honestly all I can think about is decorating/painting my new tool box and filling out my new gold polka dot planner. Let me tell you what I got for Christmas!

Socks

DSC03827

My mom got me socks. As a kid, I would have been a little bummed getting socks for Christmas. As an adult, I couldn’t be happier! Funny story…I’m not much of a sock person. I don’t usually wear socks. Actually I don’t usually wear shoes that requires socks. I guess that’s because I’ve never put my foot into a REAL sock before. My mom has these socks that I borrowed from her and it was the first time I’ve worn socks that felt like that. It was like my entire foot was being held. It was amazing. My life instantly changed and so did my view on socks! So I kept borrowing my mom’s socks but I would forget to put them back. Long story short, she bought me my own!

House Shoes

My mom got me these warm and cozy house shoes! It feels like my feet are in the folds of a rabbit’s fur. It looks like Los Angeles is actually having a winter this year and it makes the tile in the house cold. So I’m seriously loving my warm house shoes!

Watch

DSC03817

My dad got me a watch! Now I know what time it is! All the time! Lol it’s the small things that makes me happy! It’s pretty too! I’m in love with rose gold color watches with rhinestones/diamonds around the face of the watch.

Cardigan

My mom got me a cute cardigan that I want to rock everyday. But I can’t because people will judge me. I mean it’s similar to a jacket right? It’s not like it’s underwear. Why is in unacceptable to be seen in the same cardigan for 7 days straight?

Tool box

DSC03798

Guess what! My best friend got me my tool box! I actually screamed when I opened this gift! I wasn’t expecting it at all. I’m actually shocked that she knew exactly what kind of tool box I was looking for. I wasn’t even too sure what kind of tool box I wanted. But she knew and surprised me with it!

Lane Bryant & Ashley Stewart gift card

My other best friend surprised me with these gift cards because she knows my struggle with the twins. I’m not even going to get into that because I can easily go on about how much my breast are a pain! Plus size stores are the ONLY places I can shop for bras and they are EXPENSIVE! So I was more than thankful for these two gift cards from her!

Purse

DSC03824

My sister travels a lot and her last adventure was in Italy. She brought me back a bag that I thought was a makeup bag because of it’s shape. After looking on the inside, I don’t think it’s a makeup bag. But even if it was, I’m not using an Italian made bag for makeup!

Planner

This is one of the gifts I got for myself this year. Every year I get my usual plain jane planner but this year I stopped at target and found this cute planner. The cover is made of brown cardboard with gold polka dots on it! I had to pick it up! New year, better planner right?

Laptop

The other gift I got myself was a new laptop. I’ve been needing a new laptop for quite some time now but I’ve been holding on to this one for a while. I just don’t want to get rid of it. It’s my first laptop that I’ve ever had and I bought it myself my second semester of college in Jan 2011. Five years later, it gave out on me! It would not turn back on and even though I saw the signs, I didn’t save my files! I wanted to cry! All those years of work from school, my pictures, everything was just gone. I did some research and found a way to get it back on, and it worked! Thank goodness! So I’m using it right now, but I’m not sure how long it’ll stay on. So I got my files and ordered myself a new laptop!

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

Casual Christmas

This Christmas, I went to my aunt’s house on my dad’s side. It was a very chill and relaxed environment so I dressed extremely casual and comfortable. No dress or heels. Oh I know! I did wear red though. It was a bit windy Christmas day, but the sun was out pretty bright. So, there wasn’t really a need for a jacket at 2:30 in the afternoon. This is our winter in Southern California. 🙂

Dressing up for the Holidays

Christmas is only two more days away! Do you know what you’re going to wear to your dinner party yet? I found a few cute ideas for Christmas outfits on Pinterest. You can never go wrong with a flattering dress, or a skirt and cute top with a pair of heels.
Red is a great color to wear for Christmas parties. Pair this dress with gold accessories and a gold heel and you will surely turn heads.
Lace is always great for the holidays. Pair your lace dress with simpler jewelry and heels or booties.
Maroon is also a great color for the holidays. Let that be your pop of color in your outfit.
Pair the maroon sweater and tulle skirt with the green strap heels for a more holiday look. If you are in colder climates, a suede forest green pump would work as well.
Shades of red, green, tan, and black are great go-to colors for your holiday outfits. Show me your holiday outfits! I want to see what you’re wearing!

My Christmas Wishlist!

Christmas-wishlist

I don’t usually ask for anything for Christmas but there are five things that I really would love to get this year. I definitely don’t expect to get all of these things but one of them would be nice! Here’s my Christmas wish list.

Watch

I NEVER know what time it is! My phone is usually close by so I check that, but at work, we aren’t allowed to have our phones out like that. Plus, I’m usually so busy that I don’t even have time to look for my phone to see what time it is. So a watch would be necessary. Also, I have a new love for watches. Styling them at work, I get to see all the different types of watches from different brands. I love them all. I styled the photo of the watches below for Hautelook.

Dressform

I really want a good dress form to drape clothing on. I miss the forms at school. They were sturdy and easy to drape on. Draping is a way of making a pattern for a garment. You fold, tuck, pin, cut, mark, etc. the fabric to form the garment you’re making using the dress form as a base. I have the adjustable dress form, which is great for fitting different sizes, but it’s horrible for draping purposes. It’s very unstable and hard to pin on.fashion-dress-forms

Tool box

I want a tool box, actually I need a toolbox to keep all my sewing supplies organized and to grab while I’m working and for travel with fashion shows and fittings. I have a box that holds most of my things, but it’s one opening and my needles and pins are always getting lost at the bottom of the container. Anything small will fall to the bottom out of quick reach. A tool box with multiple compartments separates the large items from the small ones and I’ll be able to see my tools easier.img_0421

Steamer

Ever since I’ve started working at Hautelook, I’ve wanted a steamer. It’s so much faster than an iron; it gets in tough places where there’s pleats and creases that an iron can’t reach; and it doesn’t burn your fabric! Need I say more? Plus a traveled sized one would be great for fashion shows.steamer_cat_hero

Camera

I already have a camera, but it’s huge and bulky. I don’t really like to take it places because it’s so heavy and it becomes a bother. So, I use my phone to compensate, but the photo quality on an LG G3 phone is ridiculously terrible! A new camera would be great for my blog as well. I’d be able to take nicer photos for my posts.Pocket-Point-and-Shoot-Cameras

Seems like everything I want are things related to building my brand K. Sherri. I don’t mind though. K. Sherri is my baby! Just like my blog!. : ) If you have no idea what I’m talking about, meet K. Sherri. www.ksherri.com

Anyway, let me know what you guys want for Christmas this year!

5 Things That Annoy Me

Five-Things-that-annoy-me-narrow
I’m picking back up my “5 things” blog posts. The last topic I chose was 5 things that annoy me. No intro is needed so let’s dive in.

Unreliable people

b3d6c257505347b241a600822881285eI work in an industry where a lot of what I do requires a team. Multiple people are needed to get photo shoots done, fashion shows, etc.. One thing that annoys me is when someone makes a commitment to me and cancels last minute. It’s ridiculous how inconsiderate people can be. This past November, I was supposed to be planning a small fashion show with 3 models, one makeup artist, one hair stylist, and an assistant to help me with my pop up shop. Would you believe that all of them flaked on me within 24 hours of the show. I had to cancel everything and do the pop up shop by myself. I mean it’s not like I needed help with the pop up shop after all since my attention wasn’t needed with the show again. I’ve been flaked on may times, by friends and people I needed to work with, but I’ve never had an entire cast call out last minute.

Traffic

1401832888000-AP-Driving-Changes

I’ve been a commuter since I got my car in September 2012. That’s when I started going to Cal State LA. I drove up the 710 everyday. Now my job is in Culver City. That’s Southern California in case you’re some place outside of this zone. SOmetimes I forget people in other countries are reading my blog! But anyway, I drive about an hour and 15 minutes in the morning to work and an hour and 45 minutes to get back home in the evening. That’s regular traffic. You don’t want to know if an accident is on the freeway. That’s Los Angeles for you! I hate the traffic. I makes me more tired after work than my job does alone. It’s exhausting and there’s no way around it. Trust me. I’ve tried.

Bad Parking

untitled

Along with traffic, I HATE when people park like they own the entire parking lot. We have marked lines for your car to fit into. FOLLOW THEM! I’ve also noticed it’s usually the smallest of cars parking in multiple spots. Just to add to the bad parking thing, I hate when people put their trash cans and recycle bins in parking spots. For people who may not understand my frustration with this, let me explain. I live in a city where parking is gold, especially in the evening/night hours. If you see a parking spot, take it. Don’t go down the block and hope to find a closer one. You won’t. And if you do go down the block, chances are there will be none and you’ll swing around for the one you originally saw, and it won’t be there anymore. So that’s why I get frustrated when I see people’s trash cans taking up the space of the block.

Waking Me Up Before My Alarm

87156198

Just don’t. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT wake me up before my alarm. Actually don’t wake me up at all. UNLESSSSS, the house is on fire, my car is on fire, someone is on fire, or Rihanna wants me to make a gown for her. Those are the ONLY reasons to wake me up. I’m kidding! But seriously, I love sleep, and I already don’t get enough. It automatically makes me grumpy when someone wakes me up and I have time left. The closer you are to my alarm time the grumpier I’ll be. Those last 10 minutes are crucial!

Waiting

g1386726859842414052

I saved this for last, because it’s the one I’m most passionate about. Everyone who knows me knows I hate waiting. If there ever was a time you kept me waiting, you’ve probably heard something from me about it. I absolutely hate waiting on people. It’s not so much an impatient thing. I’m actually a very patient person. It’s kind of a respect thing like flaking on me. Respect my time. If you make a commitment to a time, stick to it. Don’t have me waiting on you for hours especially without hearing from you and especially if you were rushing me.
Wow writing this post actually made me a little mad. I hope you guys aren’t agitated too. 🙂 Share your frustrations with me. What annoys you? Also if you have any suggestions about future topics, I’m always open to them! Thanks for reading! The next “5 things” post will be on December 29th. 5 Things That Makes Me Happy.

Blogger Recognition

This is my first time being nominated and I feel so sad that it took me so long to do this post! This will probably be my first and last nomination because of that! Thank you Allison for nominating me! I’m so happy that you thought of me and you’re an avid reader of my blog! Take a look at her blog here!
Here are the rules for this one:
  • Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Write a post and give a brief story of how your blog started
  • Give a piece of advice or two to new bloggers
  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to
  • Let the nominees know you have nominated them and provide a link to the nomination details.
I started this blog in July 2015. I’ve always been a writer and I have my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Rice to thank for that. She encouraged us to write something everyday in our journals. Actually it was homework if you really think about it but I never saw it that way. I wrote everything from how my day was going, what I ate, to how badly I didn’t want to clean my room. As I grew older, I used to keep a journal of trips I took or random days something happened and I HAD to write about it.
Then, sometime around high school, I was introduced to this world of blogging. I thought, “Why would anyone want to write online and have their business out there?” But as I read through blogs I realized how much people open up and communicate with each other. It’s a community, a supportive one at that, for the most part. I also noticed how many different types of blogs there are. That’s one thing I never really thought about. I decided I’d give it a try.
My first blog was on tumblr and I failed miserably. I ended up reblogging more than writing and my blog turned into a photo log of my feelings and that’s not what I had in mind. There’s nothing wrong with that type of blog. I love photos and my collection was actually pretty nice! It’s just not what I had in mind for my own blog. I wanted to write about any and everything.
So I gave it up for a while and continued physically writing, until this past July when I started up again. I’d say I’m pretty happy with my blog so far and the response I’ve gotten so far is amazing!
My advice for new bloggers:
Don’t be afraid to write.
This past weekend I sat down with a calendar and started writing out topic ideas and scheduling them. As I was going through some ideas, I would get nervous about a topic. Could I do this? Would I be able to pull that topic off. Do I know enough about the topic to actually write about it? Then I thought, well you know what, this is MY blog. I can do whatever the BLEEP I want! Own your blog and write whatever you please. But, do remember, this is a public forum and people will see it.
Don’t put off writing.
I made the mistake of putting off blog posts because I was tired or being lazy. Don’t do that, because days and weeks will go by right under your nose. To help avoid that, set aside some time each week to write. Even if it’s just 20 minutes. Have a few topics ready to go in case you can’t think of something to write about right away. Use the scheduling tool. Let’s say you have two hours and you’re able to write out multiple blog posts. Schedule them for different days and times. that way, if you don’t get a chance to write you have one ready to go in your drafts, you can always come back to it. I like to use Google docs because I can come back to it on any computer, tablet, and my phone.
Write for yourself.
This is the most important. Write for yourself. Don’t write for the likes or comments. Write because you enjoy it. We can see how genuine your writing is by the tone. Just be you.
Thank you again Allison for the nomination. I’d like to share the love and nominate these lovely blogs below!
