This is my first time being nominated and I feel so sad that it took me so long to do this post! This will probably be my first and last nomination because of that! Thank you Allison for nominating me! I’m so happy that you thought of me and you’re an avid reader of my blog! Take a look at her blog here!
Here are the rules for this one:
Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
Write a post and give a brief story of how your blog started
Give a piece of advice or two to new bloggers
Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to
Let the nominees know you have nominated them and provide a link to the nomination details.
I started this blog in July 2015. I’ve always been a writer and I have my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Rice to thank for that. She encouraged us to write something everyday in our journals. Actually it was homework if you really think about it but I never saw it that way. I wrote everything from how my day was going, what I ate, to how badly I didn’t want to clean my room. As I grew older, I used to keep a journal of trips I took or random days something happened and I HAD to write about it.
Then, sometime around high school, I was introduced to this world of blogging. I thought, “Why would anyone want to write online and have their business out there?” But as I read through blogs I realized how much people open up and communicate with each other. It’s a community, a supportive one at that, for the most part. I also noticed how many different types of blogs there are. That’s one thing I never really thought about. I decided I’d give it a try.
My first blog was on tumblr and I failed miserably. I ended up reblogging more than writing and my blog turned into a photo log of my feelings and that’s not what I had in mind. There’s nothing wrong with that type of blog. I love photos and my collection was actually pretty nice! It’s just not what I had in mind for my own blog. I wanted to write about any and everything.
So I gave it up for a while and continued physically writing, until this past July when I started up again. I’d say I’m pretty happy with my blog so far and the response I’ve gotten so far is amazing!
My advice for new bloggers:
Don’t be afraid to write.
This past weekend I sat down with a calendar and started writing out topic ideas and scheduling them. As I was going through some ideas, I would get nervous about a topic. Could I do this? Would I be able to pull that topic off. Do I know enough about the topic to actually write about it? Then I thought, well you know what, this is MY blog. I can do whatever the BLEEP I want! Own your blog and write whatever you please. But, do remember, this is a public forum and people will see it.
Don’t put off writing.
I made the mistake of putting off blog posts because I was tired or being lazy. Don’t do that, because days and weeks will go by right under your nose. To help avoid that, set aside some time each week to write. Even if it’s just 20 minutes. Have a few topics ready to go in case you can’t think of something to write about right away. Use the scheduling tool. Let’s say you have two hours and you’re able to write out multiple blog posts. Schedule them for different days and times. that way, if you don’t get a chance to write you have one ready to go in your drafts, you can always come back to it. I like to use Google docs because I can come back to it on any computer, tablet, and my phone.
Write for yourself.
This is the most important. Write for yourself. Don’t write for the likes or comments. Write because you enjoy it. We can see how genuine your writing is by the tone. Just be you.
Thank you again Allison for the nomination. I’d like to share the love and nominate these lovely blogs below!
