Pretty in Pink

Hi guys!

It’s the first day of Spring! I love spring for what it symbolizes, new beginnings. Makes me think New Years should be in March and not January. I feel like this would be the most inspirational time of the year, when everything is blossoming and growing.

But honestly,  I have a love hate relationship with Spring. I love the flowers and all the colors that come out but those same beautiful flowers give my allergies exactly what it needs to act up!

I’ve recently been doing some pinning on Pinterest, I mean when am I not? I found a picture of this beautiful pastel pink building with a fallen green tree in front of it. I don’t know if it’s the green up against the pink or the style of the photo, but I was intrigued by the pink building in the background.

Strangely, I’m not much of a pink person. I don’t usually gravitate to pink for MANY reasons and if you know me personally, you know I used to DESPISE the color, but for some reason I’m falling for this soft pastel shade of pink below. Maybe because it is a pastel. It’s so mellow and so pretty. It makes me feel like I’m in a cloud of pink cotton candy! So I’m going to overload you all with pink in this post! Click on the photos to see where I found it.
Happy first day of spring!!

New Seasons!

It’s been a long time since I’ve written a post. Too long. Embarrassingly long! The sad part is, everyday I wake up thinking about writing and I don’t. I must admit, I’ve been in a funk. 2016 hit me hard but I’m starting to realize that I’m the one making it worse by dwelling on things. It gets hard when you’re stuck. You tend to lose motivation and sight. But I refuse to let 2016 stop me. It’s been a tough year but it’s not too late to turn it around. We still have three more months.

With that being said…remember the 52 week challenge I wanted to participate in? Yea, the  one I completely failed at doing? Well wishful thinking right? Lol! Well like I said, we still have October, November, and December of 2016! So let’s do it! I’ll pick up where I left off and maybe do some of my favorites that I’ve missed along the way.

New Season

Cheers to a new season! Cheers to new beginnings!

How To Create A Spa Day At Home Pt. 2

I talked about creating a quick, cheap, and easy, spa day at home already, but if you have more time on you day off, let’s continue the at home spa experience.

I can’t believe I forgot the WINE in my first post. No explanation needed here!

Face Mask

I know quite a few people who stand by face masks. I’m new to this territory so I can’t give you a great review about it yet. I do want to try face masks because I know they would be a great addition to my at home spa day! Do you use face masks? What kind would you recommend?

Foot Scrub

We gave our bodies a sugar scrub so let’s treat our feet with the same love. After a bath is the best time to scrub your feet. Your skin will be soft and easy to scrub off with a foot stone. After soaking and scrubbing, use a foot lotion or Vaseline and put a sock on. Your feet will be noticeably softer.

Nail Care

On spa days, I like to do my nails, but I like to do this last. I don’t want to mess up my wet nails fumbling with my face mask or something else. After scrubbing my heels and moisturizing my skin, my nails need to be repainted. Clip, file, and buff your nails for great shape and natural shine. Set up your station with your favorite nail polishes and towels. Do your feet first then your hands.

Spa day

What are your favorite spa day routines? Did you read part 1?

And The Winner Is…

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for participating in my poll! I really appreciate the feedback!  Here are the results:

  • 3rd Place: Modern Avenue
  • 2nd Place: Living With Kelsey
  • 1st Place & Winner: The Modern Life

I’m actually happy “The Modern Life” won. I was hoping you guys would like that name as much as I did. But unfortunately it was liked so much that someone already claimed the URL. I tried many variations for “The Modern Life”: “Modern Life”, “Modern Living”, “Living Modern”, the list goes on. They were either all taken or asking for over $2000 dollars for the domain. I love my blog and I want it to grow, but I’m not investing over $2000 in a domain name! I was a little discouraged but I went back to the drawing board. I incorporated my favorite color and things related to my life, but everything I liked was taken. I slept on it and woke up with my blog name still on my mind. So today, after a while of brainstorming and advice, I came up with “The Modern Reality”. Thankfully the domain was available! Now, it’s on to coming up with a logo!

Thank you again to everyone who participated and those who helped me in person! The domain/blog name hunt is finally over!

52 WKC: 5 Something Someone Gave Me

For my 23d birthday last year (October 2015) my best friend got me a massage, something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve been to a spa where you go in different rooms of different temperatures and it had a jacuzzi area, but I’ve never gotten a massage.

I went this week and it was amazing! I was so relaxed and calm. I had a full body massage right up to my fingertips. Who knew that someone rubbing your hands with oil would feel so good. I couldn’t stop repeating in my head how good everything felt.

Indulgence Spa Day

My masseuse’s name was Irma. I went to the place in Long Beach called Indulgence. Here’s their website. Irma was amazing. She made me feel so relaxed and comfortable not only with her massage but with her spirit alone.

When I got there for my appointment, I signed in with the receptionist, who is great as well. She offered me wine or tea. I hesitated and she told me she’ll give me the wine because, “anyone who hesitates usually wants to say yes to the wine.” She was right. I did want the wine. I mean why not enjoy the total experience? I only hesitated because it was one in the afternoon.

I waited for them to prepare a room and they called me in on time. Irma took me to my room. Peppermint filled the halls and I later found out it’s from the warm towels they put on your back, legs, and feet after the massage. They were playing an instrumental soundtrack of calming noises and tunes. The room was painted different tones of brown and green.

I have to say there was a time when I was undressing that I got a little self-conscious. I realized that this lady was about to see my body in a very close up fashion. She would be rubbing my back rolls and seeing my two week old chipped nail polish fingers and toes. Side note: You know you could have the healthiest nails and nail beds but if your polish is chipped, it just looks so bad! Then I was trying to get comfortable laying on my stomach and having my face in that head rest thing, but my ginormous boobs kept choking me. She laughed when I tried tucking them in under me so I could breathe. She saw my struggle and offered me a pillow. I told her I had two pillows under me already and we both started laughing. But I had to remind myself that I was there to relax and I’m sure this lady has seen everything and if she hasn’t seen it yet, then she’ll probably see it eventually. I loosened up a bit and when I finally tucked my pillows away and she started massaging my sore shoulders all my worries and insecurities disappeared.

She was so kind and applied just the right amount of pressure. She caters the massage to where ever you need it the most. She asked me what area bothers me the most and I told her my back, shoulders, and neck. So she spent the most time on those areas.

I encourage you all to get a massage, a professional massage, even if it’s only one time in your life, get it! They’re super cheap on Groupon and Living Social and worth every penny. They’re different types of massages and different time lengths. Mine was an hour long full body massage, but if you only have 30 minutes or if you only want a foot massage, there is a massage that fits your needs.

Hello…It’s Me…

I was wondering…ok I’ll stop!

I couldn’t resist! Did you sing the title when you read it? Lol

How is your January treating you? I hope you’re all doing well and accomplishing your goals! I hope you’re all keeping up with those resolutions! Tell me what have you guys been up to?

I’m still here job hunting again. My temp position has ended. Sadly! But, I’m optimistic about the future! I see great things and it’s only a matter of time before I reach them.

I’ve been busy applying for jobs again and working on myself professionally. Have you guys heard of this live streaming app called Periscope? It’s linked to Twitter and to me, it’s pretty much like a Snapchat story with no time limits. People can view your scope live and comment as you video. I made one the other day and studied how people use it. It’s been very interesting and actually might turn into another addiction of mine. Womp womp. Oh well.

Oh speaking of, I started reading a book guys! A physical, turn the pages, fiction, novel. I tend to only read things online: blogs, news articles, etc. but it’s been a while since I sat down and read a physical book. The book I’m reading is a comedy, of course. But that’s all I’ll say for now. So far so good.

Where was I? Oh right! Periscope. So, I made an account. I haven’t streamed anything yet. I’m waiting until after I change up this hairstyle and get my eyebrows done. I can’t afford to scare people on my first post! Until then, I’ll be watching these hilarious posts from people all over the world.

If you guys have a Periscope or any social media, go ahead and follow me. I’ll follow back!

I Need Help Naming My Blog!

Good morning everyone. I’ve been thinking, I need a name for my blog. Right now, it’s just my first and middle name, but I don’t think I want my name in the title anymore. That’s where you guys come in. I need help coming up with a new name!

So far my blog has been a lifestyle blog talking about fashion, food, travel, and my life in the fashion industry. I’m not sure what other topics I would be talking about but I think those will always be the main ones. I guess it’s geared towards fashion, but that’s not all it is. It’s about life after college, figuring things out, and transitioning to an adult while trying to become successful.  Obviously, I need your help!

Please, if you have any ideas, comment below. You can email me your ideas too! Kelseysherri@gmail.com

Also, I’m curious, how did you guys come up with the name for your blog?

Thanks in advance! I look forward to seeing what you guy come up with.

52 Week Challenge — Week 1

I came across this 52 week challenge on Life or 30 Something Like it some time in September. So, I decided to wait until the new year to start it. I’ve always wanted to do one of these. I see them on instagram all the time but I always feel like I wouldn’t be able to keep up. I’ve decided to stop making excuses and just go for it. So here it is, week 1 of 52.

Why am I starting this challenge?

Well I already said I’ve always wanted to do one of these challenges but on a deeper level, I want to do this challenge because it lasts the entire year. I want to push myself to do something on my own without quitting. It’s like exercising for me. I want to do it and I’ll be good on day one. I’ll eat well-balanced and proportioned meals, exercise, stretch and do everything by the books. But then day six rolls around and that pizza, my bed, and tv looks a lot more appealing.

I’m taking on this challenge because it’s once a week. I think that’s manageable. I post at least once a week anyway, sometimes more. This challenge is also a great writing exercise. Anytime you have a topic that you didn’t come up with on your own, you push yourself to dig deeper, especially if it’s a topic you don’t want to talk about or have any interest in. I can already tell there will be some difficult topics that I’ll have to put more effort into. I’m excited about this challenge because it’s something I can work for, another goal, I guess. But why take on another goal when I already have so many for 2016? I say why not?!

So let’s see where this take us. I’ll try to post these on Sundays. I welcome you all to join me on this challenge.

Happy blogging and happy new year!

Dressing up for the Holidays

Christmas is only two more days away! Do you know what you’re going to wear to your dinner party yet? I found a few cute ideas for Christmas outfits on Pinterest. You can never go wrong with a flattering dress, or a skirt and cute top with a pair of heels.
Red is a great color to wear for Christmas parties. Pair this dress with gold accessories and a gold heel and you will surely turn heads.
Lace is always great for the holidays. Pair your lace dress with simpler jewelry and heels or booties.
Maroon is also a great color for the holidays. Let that be your pop of color in your outfit.
Pair the maroon sweater and tulle skirt with the green strap heels for a more holiday look. If you are in colder climates, a suede forest green pump would work as well.
Shades of red, green, tan, and black are great go-to colors for your holiday outfits. Show me your holiday outfits! I want to see what you’re wearing!

Blogger Recognition

This is my first time being nominated and I feel so sad that it took me so long to do this post! This will probably be my first and last nomination because of that! Thank you Allison for nominating me! I’m so happy that you thought of me and you’re an avid reader of my blog! Take a look at her blog here!
Here are the rules for this one:
  • Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Write a post and give a brief story of how your blog started
  • Give a piece of advice or two to new bloggers
  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to
  • Let the nominees know you have nominated them and provide a link to the nomination details.
I started this blog in July 2015. I’ve always been a writer and I have my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Rice to thank for that. She encouraged us to write something everyday in our journals. Actually it was homework if you really think about it but I never saw it that way. I wrote everything from how my day was going, what I ate, to how badly I didn’t want to clean my room. As I grew older, I used to keep a journal of trips I took or random days something happened and I HAD to write about it.
Then, sometime around high school, I was introduced to this world of blogging. I thought, “Why would anyone want to write online and have their business out there?” But as I read through blogs I realized how much people open up and communicate with each other. It’s a community, a supportive one at that, for the most part. I also noticed how many different types of blogs there are. That’s one thing I never really thought about. I decided I’d give it a try.
My first blog was on tumblr and I failed miserably. I ended up reblogging more than writing and my blog turned into a photo log of my feelings and that’s not what I had in mind. There’s nothing wrong with that type of blog. I love photos and my collection was actually pretty nice! It’s just not what I had in mind for my own blog. I wanted to write about any and everything.
So I gave it up for a while and continued physically writing, until this past July when I started up again. I’d say I’m pretty happy with my blog so far and the response I’ve gotten so far is amazing!
My advice for new bloggers:
Don’t be afraid to write.
This past weekend I sat down with a calendar and started writing out topic ideas and scheduling them. As I was going through some ideas, I would get nervous about a topic. Could I do this? Would I be able to pull that topic off. Do I know enough about the topic to actually write about it? Then I thought, well you know what, this is MY blog. I can do whatever the BLEEP I want! Own your blog and write whatever you please. But, do remember, this is a public forum and people will see it.
Don’t put off writing.
I made the mistake of putting off blog posts because I was tired or being lazy. Don’t do that, because days and weeks will go by right under your nose. To help avoid that, set aside some time each week to write. Even if it’s just 20 minutes. Have a few topics ready to go in case you can’t think of something to write about right away. Use the scheduling tool. Let’s say you have two hours and you’re able to write out multiple blog posts. Schedule them for different days and times. that way, if you don’t get a chance to write you have one ready to go in your drafts, you can always come back to it. I like to use Google docs because I can come back to it on any computer, tablet, and my phone.
Write for yourself.
This is the most important. Write for yourself. Don’t write for the likes or comments. Write because you enjoy it. We can see how genuine your writing is by the tone. Just be you.
Thank you again Allison for the nomination. I’d like to share the love and nominate these lovely blogs below!

My World of Fashion

Sometimes I wish there were five of me. I get myself so busy that I think about getting an assistant. But am I really assistant status yet? When do you know you’re busy enough or worthy of an assistant. I’d like to think I’m a humble person and I really don’t like asking for help, so I think I’d have to be pulling out my hair before I actually admit and allow myself to get help. I’m not complaining though. I LOVE what I’m doing. I love being a part of things, planning and working towards something.

Right now, I’m spending my days planning a fashion show with Juslisten TV that will be held at Cal State Long Beach in mid October. I’m also planning a photoshoot with them. On the other hand I’m planning a photoshoot and walk through with a classmate of mine. We are building a foundation for ourselves and promoting ourselves as designers. My World of Fashion

Last week, I signed up with an agency in Santa Monica for styling jobs, designing jobs, and event planning jobs. As busy as I am, I still really need a steady income.

But these photoshoots!! I’m so excited!!  They are going to be epic! I’ll keep you all updated on that. In the meantime, I will be sending out emails to models, makeup artists, hair stylist, and photographers for my upcoming shoots and shows. If any of you are interested or know someone who would be and are in Los Angeles County, feel free to contact me. Thanks!

5 Random Things You Wouldn’t Know About Me Unless You Asked

Hey guys! So I promised in my last post, 5 Random…Fill in the Blank, that I would post five random things related to me every other Tuesday. Each post would have a different topic. Here is my first one!

Five Random Things You Wouldn't Know About Me Unless You Asked

1. I am absolutely in love with pinterest. But I don’t feel bad because I know I’m not the only one. There are so many possibilities and ideas up there. I easily get lost in a world of pinning. I can’t help it. I’m on that thing faithfully everyday before I fall asleep. I love looking at bedroom and sewing room ideas, fashion, how to organize things, recipes, diy and upcycling projects. I especially use it for inspiration. I love pinterest!
2. I sleep naked. Well not naked naked but undies naked. It’s so freeing and cools my body. I have issues sleeping in clothes because when I move or turn over I tend to get stuck in my clothing and blanket. Clothing makes me feel restricted in my bed. Maybe I’ll wear a t-shirt or a nightgown but I’m definitely not wearing pants.
3. Out of the five senses, I couldn’t live without my sight. I’m a very visual person. I love to see things. Actually, I need to see things. That’s how I operate. I live through my eyes. My second would be touch. Even though I seriously love food, I could live without taste. And although I love the smell of Christmas, firewood, and my mom’s cooking, I could live without smell. But I absolutely cannot live without my eyes.
4. I’m actually very shy. I’m not usually the type to walk up to a person and start talking. I have and I’m able to but I sometimes over think things and get nervous to approach people, especially if I don’t have a reason to talk to them. If I’m talking business then by all means that conversation will happen and I’ll probably be the one to initiate it but socially, I’m such a whimp.
5. I love scary movies and comedies. October is my favorite month, not because it’s my birthday month, but because it’s Halloween month. But my birthday does make October beat out December as favorite month by a hair. Anyway, I love being on edge. Scary movies, roller coasters, haunt mazes. I love the adrenaline. I love comedies because I’m a humorous person. I love to laugh. I love making people laugh. Laughter really is the cure for everything.
I’m always open to suggestions about topics! Next post will be September 22nd. 5 Things I Try to Remember to Do Everyday!
Thanks for reading!

5 Random…Fill in the Blank

I’ve come across so many amazing blogs and I’m so entertained by you all. I really want to start giving shoutouts to you guys! Right now, I’m loving allirae21‘s blog. She writes these “5 Random Thoughts I’ve Had Today” posts and some of her thoughts are hilarious. I look forward to those! You guys should check them out. Here are a few that I’ve read myself.

Through her posts I’ve gotten an idea to post 5 random things about me. I think I’ll make this a biweekly thing. Every other Tuesday, I’ll share 5 random things about me. They’ll all be different categories. Something like 5 things I’m good at, 5 things that make me happy, 5 things that annoy me, etc.. I’m also open to suggestions. I’ll start this Tuesday, (tomorrow). 5 Things About Me You Wouldn’t Know Unless You Asked.

Before I go I wanted to share one of my own thoughts I had today. I had a thought that was, for a lack of a better word, STUPID. I couldn’t resist but to tell you guys about it.

I was watching the weather channel. Actually I was listening to it while I was getting dressed this morning. They were talking about bad hurricanes we’ve had over the past few years, naming them and the date it happened. My thought: they seem to have a lot of bad hurricanes around the same time.5 Random...Fill in the Blank

Duhhh its called hurricane season silly. For someone who doesn’t know about weather and hurricanes, you wouldn’t know that. But I’m from the Caribbean. Every year hurricane season is a worry for my family out there. So for me, that was a stupid thought!

I look forward to writing these 5 fill in the blank posts every other week. Maybe I’ll learn a thing or two about myself in the process. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions about what I should write about! Thanks for reading!
